The WEHoRR Safety Committee met last night and reviewed the available river flow information and the weather forecast for the forthcoming week. The positive news is the river flow continues to drop and the Met. Office forecast for this week is for prominently dry weather. The less than positive news is the Port of London Authority (PLA) ebb tide advisory ‘flag’ remains on yellow, and rain earlier last week caused it to return to red for a few days.

The Committee expects the Race to run on the ebb tide and at the planned time (3:30pm) with two proposed options to be confirmed at the latest on Thursday at midday.

Option A

– the Race will run but without the Novice and Junior Categories*. In addition, any IM3 crews with zero points will be required to ‘strengthen’ their crew by substituting more experienced rowers into the crew. Any crew that is entered as a non-junior status crew yet has 8 rowers under the age of 18, will be required to ‘strengthen’ their crew by substituting more experienced rowers (over 18 years) into the crew. All substitutions will need to be made on-line using the BROE system and within the British Rowing Rules of Racing. Spot checks will be carried out on the day.

Options B

– the race will run with full entries.

The Committee are working closely with the PLA and the British Rowing Thames Regional Rowing Council and hope that the improving river flow conditions will be favourable enough for the ebb tide advisory ‘flag’ to be green by Thursday, allowing Option B to be confirmed.

The Committee would like to say thank you to the clubs and crews who have shared their support over the last few weeks, and we continue to do the best we can in unprecedented conditions.

Be safe.

On behalf of the WEHoRR Organising Committee

(Note: all IM3, Novice and Junior crews who have to withdraw due to the river flow conditions will be offered 50% off next year’s entry fee. The majority of the costs to the Race are committed some time in advance, but we are keen to give what we can back to crews that are unable to compete due to the circumstances this year.)

*To confirm crews that are entered as Novice and Junior at the time of publishing will not be allowed to race in Option A.
