Curlew is a rowing club in East London and is open to all ages and abilities. Although very successful, with crews at Henley for 10 of the last 11 years, we pride ourselves on our friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

Training

On the basis that you don’t get any better without training (whether you’re rowing to compete or just for fun) Curlew has a training programme which caters to all abilities and which gives you the ability to row better every time.

Circuits

On Monday nights during the head-racing season (roughly from October to the end of March) circuit training is held at George Green’s School in the Isle of Dogs. This is a purely designed to work on your cardiovascular fitness.

Gym

Curlew has an excellent gym, just next to our clubhouse in Greenwich. There are ergos and weights to enable you to build up your cardiovascular fitness and strength, and training sessions are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6.30pm onwards.

Rowing Tank

Curlew has access to a state-of-the-art rowing tank at the London Regatta Centre just next to the Royal Albert Dock. This is for honing rowing technique in a controlled environment and takes place on Wednesday evenings between 7pm and 8pm.

Rowing

The most important part of Curlew’s training is on the water from the London Regatta Centre at the Royal Albert Dock. Outings take place from 8am to 10am on Saturday and Sunday mornings for senior rowers, from 10am to 12pm on Saturday for novices and from 10am to 12pm on Sunday for juniors.
